Softens with Every Wear

The Long-Standing FULLCOUNT Chambray Shirt

While FULLCOUNT is best known for its jeans, many of our core products are crafted with the same uncompromising attention to detail. One of the longest-running examples is our Chambray Shirt, a staple that has remained in the collection for more than 30 years since the brand was founded.

Chambray is said to have originated in the town of Cambrai in northern France. Unlike denim, which is woven in a twill construction, chambray uses a plain weave with indigo-dyed warp yarns and natural-colored weft yarns. This creates its distinctive heathered appearance, with both sides of the fabric sharing the same character. Lightweight yet highly breathable, chambray is comfortable throughout most of the year, making it an ideal shirt for every season except the hottest days of summer.

Inspired by the U.S. Navy Chambray Shirts of the 1940s

4810 Chambray Shirt

When developing our chambray shirt, we carefully studied original U.S. Navy chambray shirts from the 1940s.

The fabric faithfully recreates the original warp dyeing while incorporating a carefully selected blend of premium cotton. Woven on traditional shuttle looms—as evidenced by the selvedge gussets at the hem—it gradually softens with wear, eventually developing the gentle feel of well-worn gauze.

Construction is equally meticulous. Every shirt is sewn using vintage-style double-needle chain stitching, with careful attention paid to stitch spacing, stitch density, and overall balance. Both the fabric and the sewing are completed in Japan, resulting in an authentic Made in Japan chambray shirt built to age beautifully over time.

4810HW-3 Chambray Shirt "Fade"

The 4810HW-3 Chambray Shirt "Fade" begins with our standard one-wash 4810 Chambray Shirt before undergoing a meticulous finishing process that recreates the naturally faded appearance of vintage chambray.

The pronounced puckering that runs along the double-needle seams is not simply the result of washing. It reflects the craftsmanship involved in controlling stitch density and thread tension during construction, combined with a design that anticipates how the garment will evolve through years of wear.

Rather than relying solely on standard bleach or stone-wash treatments, each shirt is individually finished by skilled craftsmen, allowing every piece to develop its own unique vintage character.

As an additional vintage-inspired detail, this version features a small "23" stencil on the back, sampled from an original vintage military marking to further enhance its authentic appearance.

While preserving the defining details of the original work shirts that laid the foundation for modern casual wear, we have refined the proportions and fabric specifications for everyday comfort and versatility.

The FULLCOUNT Chambray Shirt is one of our signature permanent collections, and we make every effort to keep it continuously in stock. Whenever the time feels right, we invite you to experience it in-store or through our online shop.
